My girlfriend recently had a patient who became increasingly erratic and aggressive about her self-diagnosed post-op complications.
It all started with “penetrating tailbone pains” and then had quickly deteriorated through “subsequent vertigo” and the anxiety it caused.
For your information
: the patient had aTOT
(TransObturator Tape) procedure to fight the urinary stress incontinence she had suffered from for a while: a minimal invasive surgical treatment in which tape is placed under the urethra to act as support. The thing was
: she had Googled about it (but had read it all wrong), and had gotten totally obsessed by the TOTconnected to her tailbone (which it totally wasn’t). And then she had (miss) read that problems with the tailbone caused vertigo (which they don’t).
And now she DEMANDED that the TOT be removed, so that the strain on her tailbone would falter, so she could live her life again in balance.
And whatever her urologist explained, the woman was ABSOLUTELY SURE that the tape was connected to her tailbone, because it was HER TAILBONE and HER BODY (“you C🙁NT !!”). On the other hand, it was my girlfriend (THE C🙂NT) who performed the surgery.
So my girlfriend refused to remove the TOT, and referred the imbalanced patient to a psychiatrist in the hospital, which led to an immediate new explosion of profanity.
Because there’s one thing such patients can’t appreciate —
The actual truth.
